Ever fancied trying your hand at portraiture but not sure where to start? How about learning some portraiture basics combined with a range of expressive media and processes to put an individual spin on your artwork?
In this course, you will cover:
• Different drawing methods and media in context with a range of expressive portraits.
• Portraiture basics such as proportions, dimensions, feature relationships and angles.
• Features and cropped portraits, exploring facial expressions and monochromatic palettes for mood and atmosphere.
• Distortion of different elements of art for emotional effect and self-expression.
• Some time for group presentations, discussion, feedback and feedforward.

Watercolour Sketching

• Three Layer Painting Approaches.
• Representing Trees and Foliage.

Print Making
One Day Workshop (face to face)
Have you ever fancied trying your hand at print making but don’t know where to start? Come along and learn the basics of hybrid print making!

Learn how to design, cut and print using Lino Printing techniques.

Your Lino cut is yours to take home and can be reused as often as you like.

Learn different methods of mono printing and explore a range of styles.

Experiment with ways to add to your prints through combining media and techniques.

You may wish to bring some images with you for discussion and inspiration.

Demonstrations and guidance will be provided by two qualified Arts Tutors (BA, MA, PGCE) with a breadth of experience and skills to share. All materials plus hot drinks included!

• How to suggest different types of perspective in your painting/ drawing.
• How to compose impactful monochromatic scenes in different media.
• How to use colour theory, tints and shades to imply light and contrast in dramatic skies.
• How to employ a range of acrylic painting techniques in context with industrial landscapes.

Make Your Mark
Mark Making and Book Folding
One Day Workshop (face to face)
Discover the joys of mark making with traditional and non traditional tools and materials and keep a visual diary of your explorations in your own hand folded and assembled book.

Explore wet and dry media and surfaces.

Experiment with pressure, movement and direction.

Try different ways of holding tools and varying position to give freedom to your marks and unleash your own creativity.

Think about how to use your marks to represent different subjects and elements of art.

Guided Art Appreciation
Face to Face Facilitated Discussion and Learning Group

Come along to a set of themed discussions on an area of art history.
Learn how to analyse and discus works of art and be prepared to broaden your experience of what art is.

You will take part in group tasks and facilitated discussions with the group as well as hearing what your tutor has to offer in terms of knowledge and experience.
